Lawmakers' cars totaled

State Rep. Jack Williams, R-Birmingham, said his vehicle and all of the others that were parked on the lower deck at the State House during flooding on Thursday had to be towed. He said his car was totaled and he was told many of the other vehicles would be totaled, also.

"They had to tow everything from the lower parking deck," Williams said.

He said the water got into the electrical system of his 2006 Buick Lucerne.

"I will have to catch a ride home with someone who parked up top and go car shopping tomorrow," Williams said.

Staffers for the Legislature could be seen going to their vehicles throughout the day and pulling out drenched items.

Wreckers continued to pick up vehicles at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
