General Fund Goes Back to Conference

House members sent the $2.5 billion General Fund back to conference committee Thursday.

Both Republican and Democrat House members were angered that the budget that the Senate sent back to the House for concurrence was loaded down with appropriations for what some considered local pet projects in Senate districts, while state agencies such as corrections was taking a $9 million cut.

The compromise that came back from the first conference committee would have restored about $3 million to corrections, but allowed some of the money to go to projects in House districts.

The 2009 legislative session ends May 15.
