Roy Jones Jr. Stumps for Boxing Commission Bill

Boxer Roy Jones Jr. put in work on behalf of a bill that would establish a boxing commission for the state.

He was at the statehouse along with Olympic bronze medalist Deontay Wilder of Tuscaloosa came to support the bill, which is on the House calendar for final passage.

Jones said that the commission is needed because it would make it safer for the athletes. He said the neighboring state Florida, where he lives, has a boxing commission.

Several legislators have been working for the last seven or so years to get the bill passed, but have been unsuccessful.

UPDATE: Boxing bill could be in a bit of limbo. Because of the drama with the weather and the General Fund, the House still hasn't taken up its special order calendar. Because it's so late in the day and it is the last work day of the week for the Leg, these folks are probably ready to go home. We'll see. Stay tuned.
