General Fund Goes to Conference Committee
The House has declined to concur with the $2.5 billion General Fund budget that the Senate passed late last night.
Budget chairmans, State Rep. John Knight, D-Montgomery, said the Senate had made many significant changes to the budget and it would take more time for the House to go through them.
The general fund, which pays for the state's non-educational expenses such as public safety and Medicaid, will go to conference committee where legislators from each body will try to work out their differences.
