More on arrest of state senator leader

Alabama Senate Majority Leader Zeb Little, D-Cullman, was arrested Friday for suspicion of driving under the influence and was released Saturday on bond, according to the Associated Press. He was released on $500 bond.
A passer-by alerted a state trooper on Friday afternoon of a crash involving two vehicles on Interstate 65, State Trooper spokesman Steven Jarrett told the Associated Press. The passer-by pointed out one of the vehicles after it apparently drove away.
The passing vehicle was a 2008 GMC pickup truck with damage to the front side. Authorities identified Little as the driver. Little had alcohol on his breath and had an open container in the vehicle, the trooper who pulled him over reported. The senator refused to take a chemical sobriety test, according to the Associated Press.
Little was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, violation of the open container law and driving with an expired license, according to the report.

"DUI is a terrible offense and what I did was wrong, dangerous and irresponsible. I am prepared to accept the consequences of what I did," Little said in a statement issued Saturday evening expressing regret for the incident. "But most of all, I apologize to my wife and children, who deserve so much better from me than this."

I guess all political junkies want to know how this will wash out yet the main thing is that nobody got hurt.

While there go many of us, myself surely included, but for the grace of God, symbolically said for this heathen, Senator Little is appearing appropriately contrite.

His popping smoke from the scene makes it all the worse and I trust he'll have some 'splaining to do. An expired license? C'mon Zeb! He likely made the right call on a refusal from simply a legal perspective. Nobody could ever claim that Zeb Little isn't sharp as they come.

I'm betting he'll live to legislate again and believe that he, like all of us, deserves the chance to set things right.

A lot of people have asked me why I am not blogging about this. The answer is because I don't (generally) like to kick people when they are down. I am ticked that this seems to be a reoccurring pattern in Sen. Zeb Little's life. I note that he had a ticket for no insurance that was thrown out. How nice it must be to have those kinds of protections. When I got a ticket for no insurance a few years back

I went to jail for that very thing.

I hope that Senator Z. Little changes his ways before he kills some innocent person just trying to get home from work. Luckily for him the bill that made it a felony to elude a law enforcement officer is not yet law or he could be in real hot water. Wonder if that bill has been to the Senate yet and how he voted on it if it has. Anyone know?

There is NO excuse for drunk driving, period. NO person is above the law, NO exceptions for anyone. Too many of us have had loved ones murdered by drunk drivers. This man does not belong in the Alabama Senate and must be removed immediately. It is painfully obvious he has not learned from past behavior and is incurable in his disregard for others. Shame on him for dishonoring his family and his state.

Never good to jump to conclusions, maybe he didn't have proof of insurance when he was pulled over but provided it thereafter. If, in fact, he had insurance the ticket is thrown out. We all know that but some choose to stir the pot..... while not kicking someone while they're down.
